D1 Haters

A Public Handbook

I. Origins

No one agrees on when D1 Haters truly began. Ask three members and you'll get three different stories — a founding argument, a pact made after a shift no one talks about, a name that started as a joke and never stopped being used. What's certain is this: somewhere in the daily grind of Massachusetts State Roleplay, a handful of members decided that the work being done deserved something more than a rank in a hierarchy. It deserved a circle.

The First Watch, as members call it, is the only piece of the founding story most agree on. Before there was a name, a symbol, or a vow, there was simply a handful of people who stayed a little later, watched a little closer, and said nothing about it to anyone else. They didn't call themselves anything. Other members noticed anyway — and started calling them the ones who were always watching. The name stuck. Everything else — the ranks, the vow, the symbol — grew up around that habit of quiet attention, one generation of members at a time.

That circle is D1 Haters. It has no headquarters, no uniform, and no announcement when someone joins. It simply is — quietly, in the background, watching over the community it grew out of.

II. The Sigil

D1 Haters is marked, quietly, by a single symbol: an ember cupped in a closed hand.

It is never worn openly and never explained to outsiders, but every member knows what it means. The ember is small on purpose — it isn't meant to light up a room. It's meant to survive in the wind, kept alive by someone who cares enough to shield it. The closed hand is the vow: what's carried inside the circle doesn't spill out of it.

Members sometimes describe carrying "the ember" as shorthand for holding the vow — being trusted with something quiet and choosing to protect it anyway.

III. The Ranks

Membership moves through three stages. Progression is never requested — only recognized. Each step forward is marked by its own vow, spoken only once, and never repeated aloud afterward.

🕯️ Pledge The beginning. A Pledge has been drawn into the circle but has not yet proven themselves within it. This is a season of observation, patience, and learning what silence actually costs. A Pledge carries no ember yet — only the promise that one will be entrusted to them.
🔥 Brotherhood The first true rank. Brotherhood members have shown they can be trusted with the weight of the circle — not just present, but committed to it. This is where the ember is first passed on.
⚔️ Honor Guard The highest rank a member can hold. Honor Guard is reserved for those who have carried Brotherhood further than most ever do — the ones who are the circle, as much as they belong to it. Few reach it, and none are told they're being considered until they already have. An Honor Guard member is said to "carry the ember steady" — unshaken, no matter what's happening around them.

IV. Leadership

The circle is guided by a small line of officers, each holding a piece of its direction:

Leadership does not campaign, and it does not explain itself often. It leads by having already done the work.

V. The Vows

Every advancement in D1 Haters is marked by a vow. Each is spoken once, quietly, and never recited again — but never forgotten either.

THE PLEDGE'S VOW · spoken on joining the circle

I am given a place among you before I have earned one.

I will watch, and listen, and learn what your silence means.

I will not speak of this circle to those outside it.

THE BROTHERHOOD VOW · spoken on advancing beyond Pledge

I have watched, and I understand now what is asked of me.

I accept the ember, and I will shield it as it was shielded for me.

What I carry here, I carry alone — and gladly.

THE HONOR GUARD VOW · spoken only by those raised to the highest rank

I have carried the ember through seasons others never saw.

I do not carry it for recognition, and I will not set it down.

The circle is not mine — I am only the one holding it steady, for now.

No member is ever asked to prove they remember the words. If the vow meant anything, they don't need to.

✦ ✦ ✦

VI. The Call

Members recognize one another quietly, without ever naming the circle aloud. If one member wants to know whether another belongs, they'll ask simply:

"STILL BURNING?" "STILL SHIELDED."

Nothing more is said. Nothing more needs to be.

✦ ✦ ✦

VII. Joining

You cannot ask your way in. There is no application, no channel to request access, no shortcut. Members are drawn in only after the circle has already been watching — quietly — and decided you belong.

If you are chosen, you will be approached directly. From there, you're welcomed as a Pledge in #induction, and the rest is between you and the circle.

VIII. Where to Find Us

IX. Closing

D1 Haters was never meant to be seen. It was meant to be felt — in a server that runs a little smoother, a community that's a little better looked after, a group of people who showed up for each other before anyone asked them to.

THE EMBER DOESN'T BURN BRIGHT. IT JUST DOESN'T GO OUT.

If you're reading this and wondering whether you're being watched — you might be. Say nothing. Keep doing the work. The circle notices.

This is the public handbook of D1 Haters.
What happens beyond it stays beyond it.
